MINNEAPOLIS - A bust with the Dallas Cowboys, quarterback Drew Henson will try to make it back to the NFL with another team.

Henson was signed by the Minnesota Vikings to their practice squad Wednesday.

Settling for a spot on a practice squad instead of as a third quarterback on an NFL roster is quite a fall for Henson, who starred in football and baseball at Michigan.

Projected to be a first-round pick in the 2001 draft, Henson instead signed a six-year, $17 million contract with the New York Yankees and was labeled their third baseman of the future. But after toiling in the minors for three years, Henson gave up on baseball.

The Houston Texans selected Henson in the sixth round of the 2003 draft, then dealt him to the Cowboys a year later for a third-round pick.

But Henson played in just two games with one start in 2004. That start came on Thanksgiving against Chicago and Henson was yanked at halftime by coach Bill Parcells after completing just 4-of-12 passes for 31 yards and an interception.

In 2005, Henson was inactive for all 16 games after Tony Romo beat him out for the backup job behind starter Drew Bledsoe.

After finishing second in NFL Europe with 1,321 passing yards for the Rhein Fire, Henson was cut in training camp by the Cowboys.
