The Seattle SuperSonics will sign Yotam Halperin on Monday, making the young guard the first Israeli player to join the NBA, the Jerusalem Post reported.

The Sonics selected Halperin 53rd during the draft in June. He played in Seattle's summer league and signed on for an additional season with the club Maccabi Tel Aviv, the Post said.

The Post said that Halperin is not the only Israeli offered a roster spot in the NBA; that distinction goes to Lior Eliyahu, who was scouted by the Houston Rockets, but he declined the team's offer to play for Maccabi Tel Aviv.
