Nats name Riggleman
Jim Riggleman was officially introduced as the manager of the Washington Nationals.

The two-time All-Star was traded with starting pitcher Cory Lidle to the Yankees for four minor league prospects during the game.

“It’s tough to leave a place when you’ve been here so many years,” Abreu said.

The Phillies get left-hander Matt Smith and Class-A shortstop C.J. Henry — a first-round draft pick in 2005. They also landed rookie league catcher Jesus Sanchez and right-hander Carlos Monasterios.

After the trade was announced to the crowd before the ninth inning, Abreu came out to a standing ovation. The right fielder smiled and seemed touched by the response, and a few teammates applauded on the field.

“It made me feel so good,” Abreu said. “I feel so appreciated. They’ve been good to me.”

Lidle also came out and waved to the crowd.

Howard tied a major league record with five walks in the opener. The NL home run leader was intentionally walked in the eighth to load the bases for Aaron Rowand, who hit a two-run double that made it 11-5.

The Phillies have won five of six and trail Cincinnati by five games in the wild-card standings.

“We’re still in the wild card,” general manager Pat Gillick said.

Abreu was scratched from the lineup about 10 minutes before the opener of the day-night doubleheader. Abreu (.277, eight home runs, 65 RBIs) stayed in the dugout, chatting and joking with players on the bench. He received some hugs and cheered when Lieberthal hit a grand slam in the fourth.

And Abreu was all smiles when Utley doubled in the fourth inning off starter Anibal Sanchez (4-1) to extend the streak.

All of that seemed to overshadow the return of 2003 All-Star Randy Wolf, who made his first start in more than a year after having surgery on his left arm. Wolf labored in his first start since June 11, 2005, throwing 97 pitches in 4 1-3 innings.

“I had butterflies, but I felt fine out there,” Wolf said. “I wanted to be aggressive, but I was probably nibbling too much. My command was not that great.”

Wolf allowed three runs and three hits. He walked five and struck out four. Aaron Fultz (2-0) allowed two runs in 2 2-3 innings of relief.

Willingham hit two homers and drove in four runs for the Marlins.

Miguel Olivo’s solo homer gave the Marlins a 2-0 lead. Utley led off the fourth with a double and scored on Rowand’s RBI double. With the bases loaded, Lieberthal hit his fourth career slam and first in three years into the left-field seats for a 5-2 lead.

Sanchez allowed eight runs in 4 1-3 innings.

“We didn’t throw strikes, we got down in the count,” Girardi said. “You can’t do that in this ballpark or you’re in trouble.”

Notes: Phillies RHP Ryan Franklin was designated for assignment. ... Dick Allen (Aug. 16, 1968) and Von Hayes (July 6, 1990) are the other Phillies to walk five times in one game. ... The Phillies recalled OF Michael Bourn and RHP Scott Mathieson from Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre to fill the open roster spots. ... RHP Chris Reop pitched an inning in the first game, then was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque to make room for Moehler.
