CHICO, Calif. - Former major league slugger Jose Canseco had another run-in with police this week after winning the home run derby at the Golden Baseball League’s inaugural All-Star game.

Several hours after Canseco won $250 in the contest, Chico police officers found him outside his Oxford Suites hotel room early Wednesday morning in a heated argument with a woman, Han McDonald. Officers found the room, where the two were staying, had been damaged.

Neither person was arrested, but hotel management held McDonald liable for the damage, which she paid for before leaving later that morning, said Capt. John Rucker.

The argument apparently never turned physical, Rucker said.

Canseco, out of the majors since 2001, pleaded no contest in 1998 to a domestic violence charge for hitting his then-wife, Jessica. He was sentenced to one-year probation as part of a deal with prosecutors.

In 1992, he was charged with aggravated assault for ramming his vehicle into a new car driven by his first wife, Esther. He agreed to community service and counseling.

The former American League MVP and six-time All-Star is attempting a comeback with the Long Beach Armada.

On Tuesday, Canseco pitched for the South in the All-Star game, retiring only one batter while giving up four runs. The North won 7-6.
