Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen became incensed after rookie pitcher Sean Tracey failed to follow his orders to hit Texas Rangers batter Hank Blalock with a pitch on Wednesday night, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Tracey relieved starter Javier Vazquez to start the seventh, and the right-hander got leadoff hitter Blalock out on a grounder. But Guillen slammed a water bottle to the ground, brought Agustin Montero into pitch and then was seen in the dugout barking at Tracey, who pulled the collar of his jersey over his head.

“I tried to get Montero ready (to face Blalock) and wasn’t able to. It was a little late,” Guillen explained. “It was my mistake. I didn’t get him up quick enough. I didn’t want Tracey in that situation.”

The Sun-Times cited a source saying that Guillen wanted Tracey to play the goon in retaliation for White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski being hit by two pitches earlier in the game. Tracey fired two pitches inside to Blalock before getting a groundout.

The source told the Sun-Times that Guillen told Tracey he was being demoted to Triple-A. "Ozzie went nuts,'' one source said.
