Simple celebration rule: Stay on your feet

Q: Don, in the ocean that is free agency, the New York Football Giants have yet to make a ripple. Are they simply content (and disillusioned) enough to think that they don't need help at linebacker? I know that the draft is supposed to be linebacker heavy, but please don't tell me they plan to count on boys in a man's game!
--Doc Rogers, Thousand Oaks, Calif.

A: They were looking into LaVar Arrington this week and general manager Ernie Accorsi is big on Penn State players, but nothing has happened yet. Coach Tom Coughlin said Wednesday, "There are some players that would be a nice fit for out team, but that will come as we work toward the draft. Right now, most of our focus is on the draft. Now, we'll go back and piece some things in if we can."

Q: Don, what do you think of Michael Huff's NFL prospects? These days coaches in NFL focus their defense too much on cornerbacks. Safeties are not given much opportunity (read money). Huff was known in Texas to break away quickly from the already decided arrangement, when his insight tells that he has to. In NFL, can Huff reproduce what he did in NCAA? Will the NFL coaches give liberty to Huff to read the opposition offense and act accordingly?
--Sundararajan Srinivasan, India

A: Huff is easily the top defensive back in the draft, and he has been projected at both cornerback and safety. In many defenses, especially the popular “Tampa Two” run by Indianapolis, Chicago, Tampa, and now Detroit and Minnesota and others, the safeties are just as important as the cornerbacks. Huff is a natural safety with enough skills to play cornerback if necessary. I hear nothing that suggests anybody will curtail his instincts and abilities. Lot of teams are eager to get him and he won't last past 10 or 12.

Q: Do you think now that they have two first-round picks, the Jets will try to move up to the top spot to get Reggie Bush? It would make a lot of sense for the Texans to take that deal cause then they could probably still get D'Brickashaw Ferguson and with the fourth pick and probably pick up a late-round pick or two in the trade as well to really get what they need, young talent.
--Kenny Sledge, Ankeny, Iowa

A: It would make a lot more sense for the Jets than for the Texans, who would get run out of Houston if they traded away rights to Reggie Bush and ended up taking anybody else other than Texas quarterback Vince Young. The Jets seem to be more interested in a quarterback or lineman (offense or defense) than in Bush. They have too many needs to package both their No. 1s to move up for Bush. They are more than one player away, even a player of Bush's stature.

Q: With Commissioner Paul Tagliabue stepping down, is that the end of London's chances of ever getting an NFL game? Do you know what two teams were going to come over here before the CBA delay scuppered a game over here in 06?
--Adam, Weston-Super-Mare, England

A: Tagliabue set his sights on China on Wednesday, saying there is a good chance of a preseason game there in 2007. I do not believe the NFL had designated two teams for the regular season for England in 2006 because the schedule has yet to be announced. There will be no regular season games outside the U.S. in 2006, even though Tagliabue declared the game in Mexico City last fall between San Francisco and Arizona a great success.
