Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, a big football fan, has “lots to do” and won’t seek the job of NFL commmissioner after Paul Tagliabue retires, she said Sunday on NBC’s “ Meet the Press.”
“I still think the best job in America may be NFL commissioner,” Rice said on the show. “It’s a little too soon for me. I’ve got lots to do as secretary of state. I think if my ship came in, it’s going to have to leave the port without me.”
When pressed by NBC's Tim Russert, Rice insisted she was "not interested."
Rice, an avid follower of the Cleveland Browns and pro football in general, has frequently said she aspires to run the league one day.
In the days since Tagliabue announced he would retire in July, Rice’s aides have said she was not interested.
