World Cup champion Apolo Anton Ohno, front, looks to continue his short-track speedskating dominance for the U.S. Olympic team at Turin.

Speedskating (short track)
The U.S. will qualify skaters through the World Cup season. However, only four World Cup events count for classification. A maximum of five men and five women, with a minimum of two women and two men, can be qualified.

The U.S. skaters were selected based on results from the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, which wrapped up Dec. 16. The final roster was announced Dec. 17.

Apolo Anton Ohno aims to continue his short track dominance at Turin. Ohno, one of the most dynamic athletes of the 2002 Games, earned his second straight trip to the Olympics with another dominating performance at the U.S. short track championships.

Rusty Smith, J.P. Kepka, Anthony Lobello and Alex Izykowski also grabbed spots on the team.

Trying to become the first American to make both speedskating teams for the same Olympics, Shani Davis struggled in the short track championships and failed to pull off the historic double.

On the women’s side, Allison Baver will return to lead the U.S. in Turin. The American record holder in the 1000m will be joined by upstart 16-year-old Hyo-Jung Kim, Kimberly Derrick, Maria Garcia and Caroline Hallisey.
