The U.S. team will qualify three men, three women and two relay teams for the Turin Games.

Competitors are selected based on pre-qualifying standards. Women must have placed in the top 35 in the World Cup rankings for 2004-05 or have two top-10 finishes in the ’05-06 season. Men must have placed in the top 40 in the ’04-05 rankings or have two top-15 efforts in ’05-06.

Jay Haakinen was the first American to meet the pre-qualifying standards with a pair of top-15 World Cup finishes last season.

Jeremy Teela won the final 10-kilometer sprint at the Olympic trials in Maine to join Hakkinen on the squad.

Other nominees for the men’s team were Tim Burke, Lowell Bailey and Brian Olsen.

Rachel Steer won the women’s sprint to finish first in the competition.

Other nominees for the team were Sarah Conrad, Carolyn Treacy and twins Lanny and Tracy Barnes.

The list of nominees will go to the U.S. Olympic Committee, which will make the final selections for the Turin Games.
