LEADERSHIP
Both players quickly earned the respect of their teammates in losing situations during their rookie seasons. Whether it was the ability to shrug off a brutal hit, an ill-advised pass or an untimely interception, neither Manning brother pointed fingers, except at themselves. Eli appears calmer in the huddle, but maybe that’s because he doesn’t have to be as animated as Peyton does in the Colts’ offense that gives him the freedom to audible on every play. Both are tireless workers, in the film room and on the practice field. Peyton’s devotion to video is well-chronicled, as is his post-practice passing drills with favorite target Marvin Harrison. Eli puts in his time, too, especially with Plaxico Burress, the former Steeler who has emerged as Eli’s favorite receiver. Leadership is earned through victories, of course, and Peyton became a more respected leader as the Colts emerged as a consistent playoff team. Eli turned the Giants from dreadful in 2004 to an exciting, playoff-possible team in 2005, leading by example. Edge: Peyton.
