ARM STRENGTH
This category is closer than you might think. Eli’s arm might actually be stronger than Peyton’s, but having to play in wind-strewn Giants Stadium mitigates that. Peyton plays in the climate-controlled RCA Dome, where his passes are never blown off course or knocked down by the elements. Nor does he have to contend with weather-induced uncertain footing as he plants before throwing. Both Mannings are prototypical NFL quarterbacks — big arms, big bodies, big hearts. And neither is afraid to step up in the pocket. Both have zip on their throws over the middle and to the sidelines, the latter often thought to be the truest test of a quarterback’s arm strength because the risk of interception means the football must be drilled. Peyton throws a more accurate deep ball but Eli isn’t afraid to let it fly, though early in his career it appears the Giant is prone to putting too much air under his long passes. Edge: Peyton.
